Arifa Zaman Moushumi, popularly known as ‘Moushumi’ was born in the south-western district Khulna of Bangladesh. She is the eldest of three daughters in her family.

Arifa Zaman Moushumi started her career in motion picture in 1993 and since then she has been very popular among the mass people of Bangladesh. Since then she has performed in many Bengali movies and won National Film Award for her performing skill. She has also performed in a few Bengali soap operas. In 2003, she started directing Bengali films along with acting.

Before joining the film industry, Moushumi came into limelight by winning a beauty contest and performing as a model for television advertisement during 1990.

She has keen interest to work for the betterment of children and women and established Moushumi Welfare Foundation to materialize her vision. Through the Foundation, she has already founded a primary school for children.
