Today UNICEF Azerbaijan jointly with TABIB organized a webinar on supporting breastfeeding, with over 500 healthcare workers and facilities from all across the country participating in the event.

During the webinar Dr. Aynur Polukhova from Scientific-Research Institute of Pediatrcis presented on the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and babies, mechanisms of the establishment of successful breastfeeding, and specifications of breast milk that make it unique for babies’ healthy growth and development. Shabnam Shalgaldiyeva from TABIB discussed 10 steps towards successful breastfeeding of Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. Vafa Aghayeva, UNICEF Health and Nutrition consultant, reported on the progress of the implementation of Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) in Azerbaijan. Later, the champions of BFHI - Lankaran, Guba and Sumgait Regional Perinatal Centers - shared their best practices in the introduction of 10 Steps.

The webinar aimed to draw the attention of healthcare workers to the importance of BF, contribute to their capacity building and encourage them to promote breastfeeding in their communities
