Early Childhood Development Programme: a joint effort by partners to support the beginning of life

The launch of the "Early Childhood Development (ECD) and the National ECD Campaign in Azerbaijan"

With the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Regional Development Public Union (RDPU), the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children and UNICEF in Azerbaijan jointly organized the launch of the Early Childhood Development programme and the National ECD Campaign in Azerbaijan on 22 April.
Soltan Mammadov, Head of the International Relations Department of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Bahar Muradova, Chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children, Edward Carwardine, UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan, Kestutis Jankauskas, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan attended the event. Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Azerbaijan Anar Karimov, Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov, Inspection of the Minister of Health Rahim Aliyev, Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance Nigar Bayramova, Chairman of the Medical Territorial Units Management Association (MEDA) Ramin Bayramli, MPs Ilham Mammadov, Mushfig Mammadli and other official guests also shared their speeches. 
The highlight of the discussions was the importance of Early Childhood Development (ECD) as one of the priorities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan. The projects and other initiatives in this direction will undoubtedly contribute to the government's human capital development priorities and the implementation of the "Action Plan for 2020-2025" on implementing the Strategy for Children, approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the event, goals of the ECD programme, implemented since 2019 by UNICEF Azerbaijan and the Regional Development Public Union with the financial support of the European Union, newly created web portal for parents www.eudi.az and discussions on the activities of the Early Childhood Development Resource Center and other future activities were discussed among the participants.
 
The main objectives of the programme -  educating parents and other stakeholders on the social, physical and mental development of children under the age of eight, as well as health, nutrition, education, monitoring the dynamics and stimulation of development, increasing the capacity of service professionals were stated during the discussions. Planning of various round table events, conferences, creating a community platform and conducting extensive awareness-raising activities in four target regions - Ganja and Shirvan, Agjabadi and Absheron districts are also planned as part of the implementation of the programme.
Representatives of other organizations and diplomatic corps that will also contribute to the project joined the event through the Zoom platform. The presentation was also broadcast live on social media.
