Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Economic Development and UNICEF

BAKU, August 18, 2005 - The Minister of Economic Development Farhad Aliyev and UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan Hanaa Singer have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
that formalizes the process by which they collaborate on fulfilling the UN Development Assistance Framework for 2005-2009.

Main objective of MoU is to accelerate the achievement of child-related global commitments, reduce child poverty and exclusion while putting children and the reduction of child poverty consistently at the centre of national and international socio-economic policy agendas and decision-making, including the Millennium Agenda and the new sustainable development programme.

The MOU outlines the following key areas of collaboration: Development of country specific MDGs Action Plan; Implementation of SPPRED and development of the new long-term sustainable development programme to improve welfare of the population; Strengthening MDG Tracking & Monitoring at the country level.

The Memorandum will be implemented within the framework of UNICEF‘s Country Programme for 2005-2009 with a total budget of US$9.725.000.
