UNICEF Azerbaijan condemns Baku Oil Academy attacks

BAKU, 01 May 2009 – UNICEF Azerbaijan is deeply saddened and terrified by the reports of immense human casualties following a horrible gun attack at the Baku State Oil Academy on 30 April 2009 and extends its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Azerbaijan.

Guided by the principles of the Convention of the Rights of the Child and other international treaties, UNICEF understands and shares the grief of the people of Azerbaijan, condemning any act of violence, terror and killing against innocent civilians.

UNICEF Azerbaijan has offered psychosocial and trauma counseling assistance to the Azerbaijani Government to help the families of victims and witnesses of the tragic attack and stands ready to help relieve its aftermath.
