Maria Nazaré was attended in the Special Nutrition Units created in health facilities to provide adequate treatment and save children life
Maria Nazaré, 2 years old, was diagnosed with severe malnutrition and referred to the Special Nutrition Unit (UEN) at Balombo Hospital in Benguela province.
At this UNICEF supported facility, parents understood that Maria was malnourished due to early weaning, as her mother was pregnant again.
In this health unit, Maria started to receive proper treatment that included therapeutic milk and fortified Ready to Use Therapeutic Food.
Several children like Maria are referred to Special Nutrition Units or are followed up in an outpatient clinic to ensure that they can survive, recover and have a healthy life.
