Tirana 24, April 2019 - Over 150 Child Protection Workers and Directors of the Social Services Directorate from 61 Municipalities across the country came to Tirana as a "Community of professionals" with the aim of seeking new ways to deliver quality care services for every child and family in need and share experiences among them.
A group of civil society organizations engaged in building a functional, integrated child protection system and improving direct child protection interventions are launching today the “National Coalition in support of Child Protection Workers”.
Ongoing efforts have been made to improve child protection case management response, nonetheless the insufficient number of child protection workers in place, as well as the lack of professional capacities of those serving in the system, have affected the quality of service delivery to children and families in need.
The State Agency for the Rights and Protection of the Child acts as a driving force to the newly established Child Protection Coalition, which is greatly contributing to the empowerment of child protection workers, and help them to respond to various problems such as: violence against children, abuse, neglect and economic exploitation of children or those in street situation and children in conflict with the law.
The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has prioritized the role of child protection workers, thus providing a dedicated support which ensures that every municipality meet the target of one child protection worker per 3000 children. The conference calls for the local government to invest in achieving such target.
The conference provides an important opportunity for the child protection workers to enhance their understanding of roles and responsibilities, following changes in legislative framework adopted in the last two years. The two-day meeting will be a platform of professional discussions on how to overcome the challenges in providing effective protection to every child in need.
Moreover, it will help to build a new way of thinking towards integrated and user friendly social protection services for every child in Albania.
The Conference is supported by UNICEF, OSCE Presence in Albania, Save the Children, World Vision and Terre des Hommes.
