Tirana, 18 April 2019 - Today, UNICEF and the Municipality of Tirana have launched a new initiative - “Friendly Wi-Fi”, at Tirana Artificial Lake Park.

“Friendly Wi-Fi” is a certification service, which originates from the UK, and ensures that internet content is filtered from illegal and pornographic materials.

This novelty was brought to Albania by UNICEF as a result of its flagship program on children’s safety online and aims to offer families and children with a safer and more appropriate alternative to navigate internet.

“Considering that Globally 1 in 3 Internet users is a child and that this number is rapidly growing, protecting children from violence, exploitation and abuse online is only going to become more critical issue that requires us to act now! I am particularly happy with the excellent partnership we developed with Tirana Municipality, who mobilized their own resources and actively engaged the private sector in this endeavor to keep our children happy and protected online!”  - says Dr. Roberto De Bernardi, UNICEF Representative in Albania.

UNICEF, with the support from the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children, will continue expanding the “Friendly Wi-Fi” concept across the country and actively engaging children and adolescents as the best change makers.
