To commemorate International Family Day an awareness event is organized at Children’s Home, Durrës under the motto “Care for every child and every family.” This gathering aims to shed light on the significance of family-based care and the continuous efforts being made at the national level enabling every Albanian child to be raised and thrive in a healthy family.

Family life is the place where we come to learn the meaning and value of human relationships. Families hold societies together, and intergenerational relationships extend this legacy over time. The event is dedicated to fostering and leveraging dialogue and action towards the empowerment of families at risk of separation and the ultimate engagement of the Albanian Government, Development Partners, Civil Society, and Communities to keep families together.

UNICEF is committed to support Albanian Government in the introduction of the Child Guarantee as a significant step towards ensuring that all children, especially those at risk of poverty and social exclusion, have access to essential services and opportunities. While programmes like EU4Socialcare (Durrës is one of the focus Municipalities) are pivotal in establishing robust social services that support families and children and building a strong social service infrastructure, we can better address the needs of vulnerable families.

Murat Sahin, UNICEF Representative

The International Day proclaimed by the UN picked various themes but in Albania, we are focusing on Families, and healthy lives as an excellent opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families.

Children in Albania like any other child in the region need protection. We at UNICEF believe that a strong social care system will protect and support our most vulnerable and at-risk citizens.

Thanks to the continuous support from various institutions, I had the opportunity to improve the living conditions for my children and myself. Today, I feel more able to provide them with a more secure future. We are so happy that we are finally all together as a family.

Childhood, especially early childhood, presents a unique opportunity to influence a person’s potential development, enhance quality of life, and form human capital. Investing in children allows them to develop the capacities to build better adult lives for themselves –and a better future for Albania.

UNICEF will continue to support its Albanian partners in realizing one of the fundamental rights for all children and families – the right to protection.

This event is organized by Nisma ARSIS in collaboration with UNICEF Albania, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, State Social Services, the Municipality of Durres, and other key stakeholders.
