About Us

UNICEF's response to the global HIV/IADS epidemic extends from high government offices to small, remove villages in the developing world.

Our HIV/AIDS Section provides expertise, support, logistical coordination and innovation toward a single objective: ending the epidemic for children and their mothers.


  • Our Programme Staff are based in UNICEF's New York headquarters, and in our offices in 190 countries wordwide. They specialise in HIV prevention, as well as in protection, care and support for babies, children, young people and mothers affected by the virus. Their work includes the theory and practice of ending the epidemic and caring for those it reaches.
  • Our Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS Campaign is dedicated to reversing the HIV and AIDS epidemic by 2015. The Campaign was launched in 2005 as a worldwide call to action for all those dedicated to the care, treatment and support of children affected by the epidemic. Its work i aligned with UN Millenium Development 6 - ending HIV, Malaria and Tuberculosis.
  • Support for Programme and Campaign activities is provided by colleagues in UNICEF sections specialising in fundraising, supply and procurment, communications and related areas.


Jimmy Kolker, Chief of HIV/AIDS Section

Jimmy Kolker has been Chief of the HIV/AIDS Section at UNICEF's New York headquarters since 2007. Prior to joining UNICEF he served as Deputy Global AIDS Coordinator in the Office of the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). He served in numerous political reporting and management assignments during his 30 years diplomatic career with the U.S. Department of State, including ambassadorships to Uganda and Burkina Faso.
