The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Group of Friends of Children and the SDGs

The Group of Friends of Children and the SDGs was formed during the SDG negotiations’ process with a very important mission - to ensure that children’s rights formed an integral part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Currently, fifty-five UN Member States belong to the Group and UNICEF serves as the Group's Secretariat. During the SDG negotiations the Group's contributions led to the adoption of a truly transformative and inclusive 2030 Agenda that recognizes children as agents of change and promises to leave no one behind.

Following the adoption of the Agenda the Group continues to work with the strong conviction that children’s participation is crucial for the successful implementation of the SDGs and for achieving sustainable future for all.

The Group of Friends has made several joint statements, where individual Member States choose to align to the statement in their nown ational capacities.  The Group itself is not a negotiating Group.
