Young Child Survival and Development
Enhancing child survival and maternal health through cost effective interventions, including community mobilisation, participation and advocacy on health, nutrition and HIV prevention and treatment. HIV Prevalence in Zimbabwe has declined over the years. However, malaise, deaths and orphanhood remain high. Prevention, care and support continue to be prioritised in responding to HIV and AIDS, Supporting the protection of children from abuse, violence, exploitation and discrimination through assisting Government and their partners to strengthen the justice and social welfare systems. Since 1980, Zimbabwe's education system was been the pride of the continet but took a nosedive in the last ten years. This past glory is to be revived through support to the education system. Through an elaborate WASH in schools programme, UNICEF supports schools with the drilling of boreholes, construction of toilets and hadwashing facilities to help reduce water borne diseases.
