A World Fit for Children Plus 5

The year 2007 marks the mid decade point for the Plan of Action of “A World Fit for Children". The Plan of Action is a commitment by world leaders from more than 180 countries to protect and promote children's rights.
The main events of the forthcoming review by the UN General Assembly, include:
- the commemorative high level plenary meeting of the General Assembly and Roundtable discussions on 11 and 12 December 2007 in New York devoted to the follow-up to the outcome of the Special Session on Children.
- The two Roundtables are expected to cover the four outcome areas of the WFFC Plan of Action: Promoting healthy lives and Combating HIV/AIDS and Providing Quality Education and Protecting against abuse, exploitation and violence.
- The cross-cutting themes for both the roundtables would include: ensuring child participation, mobilizing resources, children and climate change, child-friendly policies and legislation, and gender equality.
- the launch of the Secretary-General’s report on progress towards the goals of “A World Fit for children” on 11 and 12 December 2007;
- the General Assembly 3rd Committee report on “Follow-up to the special session of the General Assembly on children (A/62/259)”;
- a town hall meeting and launch of “Progress for Children, A World Fit for Children Statistical Review" on 10 December 2007; and
- a Children’s Forum on progress towards the goals on 9 and 10 December 2007.
