Media advisory: Liberia’s first children’s FestivalMedia Advisory: Moving forward with children - Liberia’s First Children’s Festival
When: Saturday, 21st November 2009 from 10am to 5pm Where: Samuel K. Doe Stadium, Monrovia Who: The chief guest is H.E. Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia, and about 10,000 participants are expected to take part in the event, including 8,000 children from the greater Monrovia area. Simultaneously, around 30,000 children will take part in activities in the counties. Why: This year marks the 20th anniversary of the CRC, the most widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. For Liberian children most of the last twenty years was shrouded in conflict due to the fourteen-year civil war. The event is an opportunity that will help children and young people to look positively towards the future and provide a forum for them to express views, learn and empower themselves. A series of activities will be undertaken with and for the children and young people of Liberia. The festival will include a mix of ‘learn and fun’ activities including music, dance, literary and sports competitions, workshops and special events on art, photography, careers, life skills, radio, books/comics, films and sports, music and cultural concerts.
