Nomination criteria:
- An organization led by children (below 18 years of age)
- A child-led organization dedicated to outstanding work for the rights of the child in a local or national context
- A child-led organization that can show proven results from at least one year of activities
- A child-led organization with a long-term vision and plan for action
- A child-led organization that has partnered with UNICEF
Submission of nominations:
1. Nominations of organizations should include:
a) Background information of the organization
b) List of the organization’s activities to promote one or more areas of child rights that fit the criteria for the award
c) One recommendation letter from the family, school, NGO, etc.
d) Short letter on how they plan to use the awarded funds.
2. Nominations (maximum three per country) to be sent to Ms. Maria Cristina Gallegos, Voices of Youth Coordinator, Adolescent Development and Participation (ADAP) Unit, Programme Division, UNICEF Headquarters (cgallegos@unicef.org)
Proposed timeline for 2009 Awards:
21 August 2009 UNICEF NYHQ communication to Regional and Country Offices and ADAP focal points inviting nominations
30 October 2009 Closing date for submission of nominations
6 November 2009 Nominations submitted to the Alexander Bodini Charitable Foundation for it to make selection of award recipients
13 November 2009 Final selection by Alexander Bodini Charitable Foundation and announcement of recipients
Award presentation:
The recipient organizations will be announced at an awards event in February 2010 and will be requested to provide in advance a photograph and short message to be presented during the event. (Please note: It will not be possible for the children themselves nor representatives to travel to New York for the awards event).
