I'm a young person; is Junior 8 really relevant to me?
Yes! You live in the world so you are a global citizen and therefore the issues being discussed by the G8 and J8 affect you. You have a chance to influence those discussions through J8.
How can I enter the competition?
You can enter the J8 Competition by getting together with classmates to think through your ideas about the issues the G8 will be discussing. You then submit these to J8 via this website.
What age do I need to be to enter the Junior 8 Competition?
You have to be between 13 and 17 years-old on June 9, 2007 to enter.
How many groups can take part from each school?
As many as you like, so long as each one fits the entry criteria and each individual is only in one group.
Does my team have to include both boys and girls?
It has been decided that teams that go to the J8 Summit 2007 should be comprised of eight students. To fully represent young people from your country, all teams must include a combination of both boys and girls. If you attend a single-sex school, to be able to take part you should team up with another local school to make sure that there are both boys and girls on your team. This needs to be a local school so that you can work together on your entry and get to know one another.
What are the judges looking for in communiqué entries?
The judges look for entries that are:
- innovative
- ambitious
- realistic
- balanced
- well communicated
- personal
Do I have to pay for anything?
No! The competition is free, and the winning team's participation at the Summit and travel to it will be paid for entirely by the J8 organizers.
What support will schools have for their competition entry?
The J8 website contains specially-authored pieces on all the topics to be discussed at the Summit, including perspective pieces written by experts on the topics. You will be able to contact the J8 program team directly with any inquiries.
What language are the competition and Summit in?
Competition entries can be submitted in your own G8 language, but at the Summit it's important that you can speak some English or German to get to know young people from the other G8 countries, although speeches and main meetings will be translated into the other G8 languages too.
Do teachers go to the Summit too?
The teacher who has been overseeing each winning group's entries will be invited to accompany them to the Summit, paid for by the J8 organizers.
What will the Junior 8 Summit be like?
You can find out more about what the J8 Summit is like by visiting the Summit section of this site. Here you can find videos, photos and daily updates from young people who have taken part in previous J8 Summits.
I'm a teacher; is Junior 8 really relevant to me?
Yes! Because global citizenship issues are cross-curricular, the J8 teaching materials can be used by teachers of many different subjects. Use the curriculum guidance to see how it can apply to you specifically.
I'm a teacher; how can I make sure Junior 8 resources fit in with my curriculum?
J8 Resources and Competition are designed for young people aged 13-17. In the Staffroom area the curriculum guidance will show you how J8 resources fit in with your curriculum.
