First UN Global Road Safety Week Competition

Call to action

Voices of Youth announced the following call to action in February 2006.

INTRODUCTION

In May 2002, the United Nations General Assembly held a Special Session on Children. The outcome document of that Special Session, “A World Fit for Children,” adopted a set of goals for children and youth. One of the specific goals adopted in its Plan of Action requests the global community to “reduce child injuries due to accidents or other causes through the development and implementation of appropriate preventive measures”.

As part of the activities for the “First UN Global Road Safety Week”, the World Health Organization and UNICEF invite children from all over the world to participate in a creative writing competition on the theme:

“What can be done to improve road safety for children and Young People”.

  • The best entry will be selected by a Panel of Judges during the week of the 28th of March 2007. The winner will receive a prize and will be featured in a major publication of UNICEF and/or The World Health Organization.
