UN Study on Violence against Children

About the study

Children all over the world experience violence in their lives even though they have the right to live their lives free from violence. The UN Secretary-General was asked to organize a Study on Violence against Children to find out how bad the problem is and how we can work to make it better. The final Study Report was presented to the UN General Assembly on October 11th.

The day after the Study Report was presented at the UN, a roundtable discussion took place in New York. It was led by children from all regions of the world, who met in New York and participated in the presentation of the Report and other related events. The Roundtable was an informal discussion between children and young people and senior representatives of the groups that have been involved in the process of the Study and who will be crucial for making sure that actions are taken to protect children from violence. These guests included members of UN agencies, governments, NGOs, and the private sector. Ambassador Moushira Khattab, who is Vice-Chair of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, facilitated the discussion.
