People living with AIDS are vulnerable to all illnesses, including water-related illnesses like guinea worm. This woman in Cameroon pours water from a jug into a cloth to prevent guinea worm disease. However, good hygiene and adequate sanitation are extremely important in controlling AIDS-related infections - the illnesses that people get because their immune systems have been damaged by HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. People living with AIDS are not only more likely to contract such infections, they also become more seriously ill if they do. |
