Since her parents died of AIDS, Christine, 12, is responsible for much of the housework, including washing and cleaning, and helping to care for her five brothers and sisters. (Uganda) You might think the answer to this question is: not much. After all, HIV is not a water-related disease. The virus is not carried in water, but in body fluids, so improving water quality and access has no effect on its spread. Nor do hand-washing or improved sanitation, because HIV cannot be passed on through human faeces. |
