The people of the town of Ndola, north of the capital of Zambia, have drawn a map of where they will build the latrines for their community.


In addition, action on water and sanitation is sustainable. That means it does not damage the environment, and communities can maintain their own facilities in the future and teach others about good practices.

Finally, action on water and sanitation is not at the expense of (does not prevent) other environmental action. UNICEF promotes and supports action on conservation and pollution that needs to be taken at national and international levels. In the meantime, providing clean water and improved sanitation will make the biggest difference to the biggest number of people. And children who are free of water-related diseases will be able to devote some of their energy to other important issues!
