Learning how to wash their hands with soap and water helps to prevent and treat diarrhoea and other water-related diseases on this community in the Union Territory of Pondicherry in India. One answer is that action on water and sanitation, including hygiene education, is relatively inexpensive but has a huge impact. It saves lives. It reduces disease. It means that time people used to spend collecting water and caring for ill relatives can be spent on education and providing for families. Water-related diseases are easily preventable, so what excuse can there be for people continuing to suffer and die from them? |
