There are certainly more than enough serious environmental problems to choose from. As well as dirty water and lack of sanitation, you might for example be worried about global warming, deforestation, desertification, air pollution, chemical pollution, ozone depletion – or all of the above! If the whole planet is heading for meltdown, you could argue, what is the point in worrying about improved latrines?
