fair trade fair trade, or alternative trade, refers to the exchange of goods based on principles of economic and social justice. The purpose of Fair Trade is to empower low-income artisans and farmers to improve their conditions, and to promote understanding between them and people of developed regions. This is done by paying a fair wage; providing equal opportunities for all people; engaging in environmentally sustainable practices; building long-term trade relationships; and providing healthy and safe working conditions as well as financial and technical assistance to workers whenever possible.

minority a relatively small group of people differing from others in the society of which they are a part in race, religion, language, political persuasion, etc.

prejudice a preconceived opinion of someone or something, usually with a negative connotation.
prevalence rates percentage of people infected by a disease.
recruited when a person joins a group, usually an army. Recruitment can be voluntary or forced.
stigma a mark or sign of disgrace that brings about prejudice, judgment or discrimination.
trafficking the moving of persons from one place to another illegally, for the profit of others. Child trafficking is lucrative and linked with criminal activity and corruption. It is often hidden and hard to address. Trafficking violates a child’s right to grow up in a family environment. In addition, children who have been trafficked face a range of dangers, including violence and sexual abuse. They are even arrested and detained as illegal aliens – often with little or no access to their parents or other support services.
vulnerable a person that is likely to be harmed physically or psychologically.
