Children attending school in West Africa. Ending discrimination in education can improve life for boys as well as girls, for men as well as women. For example, many of the barriers that keep girls out of school, such as school fees or uniforms, also prevent boys from getting an education. So overcoming these barriers can benefit girls as well as boys. And, educated girls have the basic skills and knowledge to keep themselves healthy and safe — tools that are useful to, and can be shared with, friends and families. With an education, girls as well as boys, can develop to their full potential and have better job prospects, and career opportunities. They can become productive workers, bringing in income for their families and contributing to local and national economies. |
