With the help of the Red Cross Drop In Centre, in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia (behind John), John, 13, is taking classes so he can go back to school and get off the streets.

Many others also share the blame, for example:
• parents who knowingly send their children away from home to be sexually exploited

• the media, who fail to report the issue properly and often encourage people to think of children as sexual objects

• politicians who do not pass appropriate laws or make sure laws are enforced

• governments, non-governmental organizations and commercial organizations who have failed to reduce poverty and provide education in so many parts of the world

• anyone who ignores the problem out of fear, embarrassment or indifference

• anyone who discriminates against girls

In fact, we all share the responsibility — see How can this happen? for more about this.
