A girl in prostitution looks out from behind a poster on AIDS awareness given to her by a health worker in the south-eastern province of Svay Rieng in Cambodia. • This sort of reporting actually makes children more vulnerable, by encouraging people to think about them in a sexual way and as objects of exploitation. • This girl might well be ‘sad’. But the crucial point is: how can we know what she is like if we do not hear from her? This girl should have a voice in this story and an opportunity to tell her story herself. • We must in all cases respect this girl's privacy: we cannot use her name or her picture. |
