Violet, a health worker in Zimbabwe, gives a young woman who is pregnant and just found out she is HIV-positive information on anti-retroviral drugs. The latest medicines may be effective, but the sad reality is that these medicines are not available in many parts of the world where the need is greatest. But you can still help yourself by taking care of your general health. And it is not just your life and your future that is at stake. Your choices affect other people too. You should take precautions whether you are HIV-positive or not, but knowing your status helps you to make informed decisions, and will also enable your sexual partner or potential sexual partners to make informed choices — about having sex and about whether they should get tested for HIV themselves. |
