But you can still help yourself by taking care of your general health. And it is not just your life and your future that is at stake. Your choices affect other people too. You should take precautions whether you are HIV-positive or not, but knowing your status helps you to make informed decisions, and will also enable your sexual partner or potential sexual partners to make informed choices — about having sex and about whether they should get tested for HIV themselves.
