I've been thinking alot about role models. It really started 2 days ago. I asked a girl who was 10 who her hero was and she said Paris Hilton (!!!). Now I don't know about you but that's not exactly my idea of a healthy role model!
So I was just wondering which person you most identify with and look up to. Whether they be alive or dead; famous or not and why.
Also do you thing famous people like P.Hilton should be more responsible as their actions seem to influence young children alot? Or is it up to the parents to tell their kids that such people aren't to put up on a pedestal? Do you know any examples of how things can go wrong whensuch people are overly admired?
I'd just like to hear your views. :)
God bless.

now that's an important issue u're talking about,
taking paris hilton as a role model - I dunno about that- but taking her as a model that would be more reasonable..
as for my role-model: I'd have to say my dad coz he is one of the greatest people alive.
Also do you thing famous people like P.Hilton should be more responsible as their actions seem to influence young children alot?
yes they shud, coz the affect is huge..
Or is it up to the parents to tell their kids that such people aren't to put up on a pedestal?
parents also have a responsibility as not to let their kids believe that such people are living perfect lives and that they shud be role models and parents shud raise their children as not to be materialism.
Do you know any examples of how things can go wrong whensuch people are overly admired?
a kid can grow up and then imitating paris hilton and trying to have the perfect body and they could be anorexic and buying clothes which are very expensive and they can cost their parents so much and so on.

Paris Hilton as a hero??? oookkk.... Yeah, i defienetly think that people in her position need to act responsibly, knowing thier every move influences young children. It is so important, and i don't think that she (and all others) realize the impact they have on the younger generations. Thereofer parents should for sure take a leading role in choosing what their children are exposed too.
For me, a hoer/mentor is someone who has done something that I admire and wish i could do. Or they have been through something tough anc come trhoguh with a positive attitude. These people range from my family, my friends, even compete strangers. For example, I admire everyone who works to better the world. Weather it be Kofi Annan, Nelson Mandela, or locals who work in IDP camps and rehabilitaion centers for children.
I admire the people I work with here at the Ryans Well Foundation, and all the kids who are motivated enough to do something.
I admire Craig Keilburger for his passion.
I admire Jimmy Akana Hreljac for his courage.
I admire Mother Teresa for her generaosity and love.
I admire Dr. Jane Goodall for her dedication.
I admire Romeo Dallaire for his strength
I admire all veterans for their sacrifices
I admire teachers for their knowledge
I admire my family for their love
I admire my friends for their energy
I admire the elderly for their wisdom
I admire children for their innocense
I admire Captain Jack Sparrow for his simplicity

wow.. this is a great topic. Paris Hilton as a role model!? :| I'm floored. Whoa.. That's just wrong..
Anyways.. My role models are:
Kofi Annan.. Just for being the Secretary General, I s'pose
And Zain Verjee. She's a news anchor on CNN. A long time ago, she anchored news in Kenya on a TV staion called KTN. I admire her for going so far in her profession
Same for Jeff Koinange.. He's now the Africa reporter for CNN.
Jay Shah he was a schoolmate of mine, and he's been a very important part of the UNEP, and has on many occasions represented Kenya in conferences. I admire his dedication and hard work in improving the environment.
Steve Tikolo, captainof thr Kenyan cricket team.. For leading the Kenyan team to the quarter finals of the world cup
Zinedine Zidane for defending his mother, his sister, and his country by head-butting the Italian guy.
Mark Viduka for being an excellent footie player ;)
all my friends just for being there.. teachign me stuff like running withut sheos and socks is faster.. teaching me how to throw a spn ball. Teaching me how to hit a chakka. Teaching me the correct mindset for a 100/200m race. Teaching me boys aren't all that important.

i admire all of the people you admire or exactly the same reasons....
to many young people want to look like what the celebrities do, or be what the celebrities are... its stupid... people should look up to people as role modles because they have accomplished things in their life that have made them a better person... not becuase of what they have....

nice topic!!
I admire Alexander III the great (very very very much).
I admire people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, El Che..actually anyone who spoke up and who wasnt not afraid to stand for their ideas.
Basicly, I admire anyone with alot of ambition and who want to achieve great stuff (ive no idea why).
I also admire Hannibal, journalists, people who wanna change the world, people who help kids/women..and so on..
And I have respect for some politicians (like Gorbatchev)
I guess I forgot many many persons!!
And I really dnt udnerstand people who admire persons like P Hilton and so on..i think that's sad, because it make them have a false idea of what real world is like. I really dont understand it, some people even defend those persons and cant support people who critizise them. Its so

My role model, well hard to decide everything around me inspires me. The innocence and the goodness of a infant, man how I wish grownups could learn something from them. Dogs display such simple yet overwhelming loyalty and love, something which is so inspiring. My grandpa who sacrifised everything so that we could have a better life, I cannot express my respect for him in words. Gandhi, the half naked fakir, whose nobility has raised standards everywhere, whose words and actions will live through my heart till my death. Bhagat Singh who sacrifised his life at the age of 19 for the country fighting for freedom, he will continue to inspire youth everywhere. King Ashoka who advocated peace and non violence at the highest level of the administration, the most noble ruler India had seen. The Sudanese people, the people of afghanistan, their resilience is something that will keep the concept of the indomitable human spirit alive.
Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Chandrashekar Azad, Jhansi Rani Laxmi Bai, Joan of Arc, Harry Potter, Spiderman, parents, brother, uncle, aunt look around roll models are everywhere. It all depends on how you look at them and how you learn from people around you. You can get inspired if you chose to. Paris Hilton taught me how not to lead my life, so in a way she is also a roll model lol. :D

My role model is Veronica Guerin or Angelina Jolie.
Veronica Guerin was so brave, fighting for what she believed in, even though it got her murdered
Angelina Jolie, she does so much for charity it is unbelievable and you would hardly find loads of other celebritys volunteering!
