National Children’s Forum 2011 “Children in a safe and friendly environment”
The National Children’s Forum is where children can express their ideas and aspirations for the implementation of children’s rights. It is also one form of exercising the children’s right to participation.
Following the National Children’s Forum 2009, the National Children’s Forum 2011 will be organized from 8th to 10th August, 2011 in Hanoi with the theme of: "Children in a safe and friendly environment".
The Forum is presided over by the Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs and National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children. It is cooperatively organized by Vietnam Women’s Union, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights, UNICEF, ILO, SAVE THE CHILDREN, PLAN, WORLD VISION, CHILDFUND, CRS and CEFACOM.
Attending the National Children’s Forum in Hanoi are 180 children aged 10 to 16 who have participated in the provincial children’s fora of 30 provinces, including Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen, Ha Noi, Ninh Binh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Kon Tum, Đa Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Ho Chi Minh, Đong Nai, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ninh Thuan, Phu Yen, Can Tho and Ca Mau.
In July 2011, thousands of children from the 30 provinces enjoyed opportunities to participate in provincial children’s fora. The children have had meetings and dialogue with the local authorities, leaders of Government agencies and local mass organizations. At this National Children’s Forum, selected children will continue their discussions about creating a safe and friendly environment centred around three main topics:
Additionally, through the forum, children will also talk about their roles and duties in promoting a safe and friendly environment.
Notably, on the 10th August 2011, children will meet and have dialogue with leaders of the Communist Party, the State, the National Assembly, related ministries, agencies, organizations and associations on issues that concern them.
After the forum, key messages from the children will be sent to related agencies, organizations, policy makers and those who work for children. The National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children will reinforce their supervision towards the implementation of the Government, ministries and local authorities’ commitments for children’s legitimate aspirations and requests.
