Why are so many young people being infected with HIV?

What can a campaign do?

Information is provided to young people by trained professionals

The national campaign recognises that the vast majority of young people do not have access to the information and services that can help protect them from HIV/AIDS. Therefore it will undertake to:

• Communicate information and knowledge.
• Provide school-based and community-based life skills.
• Establish youth friendly health centres and services.
• Train peer educators and provide peer-to-peer training.
• Provide counselling and testing facilities.
• Work with young people to increase awareness on means of transmission.
• Involve all at-risk groups, including IDUs, commercial sex workers (CSWs) and clients of CSWs.
• Make people aware of the dangers of and discourage visiting sex workers.
• Increase the knowledge of wives and girlfriends in particular, of the risk of HIV transmission from partners.

Children can be very effective partners in the fight to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS.  They are also more likely to change their behaviour, in order to protect future generations.

We want you to help: by asking your local politicians, Mahalla Committees, Women’ groups, about HIV/AIDS about what can be done.

Invite your friends and colleagues to support this campaign. Spread the word that millions of children are suffering because of HIV/AIDS and the problem is growing all over the world.
