Why are so many young people being infected with HIV?


• Most young people do not have access to information and services that can help protect them from  HIV/AIDS.

• Many young people are unaware of the dangers of visiting sex workers.

• Many young people are unaware of the link between injecting drugs and risk of HIV.

• Many injecting drug users (IDUs) are unaware of the dangers of HIV and its spread through the sharing of needles.

• Many young people believe that an IDU can be recognised at a glance.

• Many young people are unaware that unprotected sex with drug user is a high risk activity.

• Most young people feel uncomfortable discussing HIV/AIDS with friends (1 in 4), even more so with their family (1 in 10).

• Most young people do not know how to use a condom properly and feel uncomfortable discussing condom use with partners.
