Health Officer

The United Nations Children’s fund (UNICEF), within its mandate and through the Country Programme of Cooperation with the Government of Uzbekistan, provides support to the State in improving the lives and well being of women and children throughout the country.

UNICEF in the Republic of Uzbekistan is announcing a vacancy. The  Health Officer will work in the Programme Unit of the Office.

Under the close supervision of Chief of Health, the incumbent will contribute to planning, administration, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the maternal and child health programme’s project activities. This will require  teamwork and capacity building activities. Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for the introduction and scaling up of basic health care services in newborn and child survival at the hospital and primary health care levels.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education: University degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or other related fields.
Work Experience: 

  • Two to three years of responsible professional work experience in a related field involving project administration.
  • Work Experience in the field of Maternal and Child Health programmes, preferably in an international organizations

Languages: Fluent English, Russian and Uzbek.
Other skills and attributes: 

  • Solid analytical and conceptual ability;
  • First rate communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Planning and monitoring skills; ability to organize work processes.
  • Ability to make timely, quality judgments and decisions.
  • Ability to manage teams of trainers and organize workshops
  • Computer skills, including key office applications, internet and E-mail.
  • Excellent report drafting and presentation skills.
  • A commitment to continued learning and professional development.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.

Closing date for Applications

Applications must be submitted in a sealed envelope by close of business on 4 July 2008. They should be addressed to the attention of Admin-HR Assistant, UNICEF Office, 43, Istiqlol Street (former Khadicha Suleymanova), Tashkent.

Applications should include a Cover Letter, current CV and P11 form. Names and contact details of professional or academic referees plus proof of academic qualifications must be included.
