A Warm and Welcoming Start to Life: The Expanded Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in Ukraine
With the support of UNICEF and the John Snow International Mother & Infant Health Project, a expanded national standards for assessment of Baby-Friendly hospitals was introduced in Ukraine. These covered a wide range of interventions. In some of Expanded Baby-Friendly Hospitalsthe average rate of partner attended labour increased from 2 per cent to 80 per cent (the national figure is 4 per cent); level of hypothermia decreased from 70 per cent to 1 per cent; and the proportion of deliveries without complications and invasive interventions increased from 28 per cent to 69 per cent. This short article takes a look at the early results of E-BFHI and also records what parents have to say about it.
