Red Card information campaign for Euro 2012, featuring Andriy Shevchenko, Ani Lorak, Vasyl Virastyuk and Gaitana, has started
Kyiv, 27 October 2011 - the "Red Card" information campaign was launched in the framework of the "Let’s Do It Together!" national social project for Euro-2012.
The campaign aims to draw attention of the youth to problems of intolerant attitude towards HIV-positive people and to prevent spreading of HIV infection, violence, sexual exploitation, gender inequality in the society.
Famous Ukrainian athletes and celebrities such as Ani Lorak, Vasyl Virastyuk, Gaitana and Andriy Shevchenko show the red card to the main problems of the youth and are calling to overcome it together.
The main messages of the campaign’s first wave are "NO to inequality!" "NO to domestic violence!", "NO to ignorance to HIV-positive people!", "NO to risky relationships!", "NO to sexual exploitation!".
"We hope the campaign will raise awareness of the youth about their rights and freedoms. To communicate with young people we have chosen the language of football because it unites people, regardless of social, religious, racial or gender differences. ", - stated the Head of the State Service of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Ravil Safiullin, opening presentation. He added that such a large-scale campaign before and during Euro 2012 will affect the improvement of Ukraine's image as a socially oriented country in Europe.
The information campaign starts in all the regions of Ukraine. Campaign advocates will spread the messages through billboards, city lights and metro-lights. Public service announcements will be broadcasted on national and regional television; posters will be placed at train stations and in schools.
"We are grateful to Ukrainian celebrities for their support and voluntary participation in this important initiative. We encourage everyone to join us showing the red card to violation of human and children rights in particular. Only together we can stop the spread of HIV infection, intolerance, violence and exploitation. "- said Yukiye Mokuo, the Representative of UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine.
Information campaign is implemented by the State Service of Youth and Sports together with UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), UN Office in Ukraine, the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), UNFPA, the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine, International Women's Rights Centre "La Strada - Ukraine", International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine and other organizations.
"Let’s Do It Together!" national social project for Euro-2012 implies "Red Card" awareness campaign in all the regions of Ukraine, organising and conducting children's and youth’s football tournament "Fair Play", as well as "Second Time" leisure activities for children and youth. In general, the project "Let’s Do It Together!" will be engage more than 10,000 volunteers. Sport events will involve over 40 000 children and youth.
