The Ministry of National Education (MONE) and UNICEF’s campaign to increase enrolment rates for girls, Haydi Kızlar Okula! expanded to include a total of 33 provinces this year.

As schools prepared to re-open in September, staff from MONE and UNICEF visited 16 of the project provinces to monitor progress of the campaign. UNICEF Turkey Country Representative, Edmond McLoughney writes about the campaign’s achievements so far and suggests further steps that will help to close the gender gap in education in Turkey by the end of 2005.

The Ministry of Health (MOH), with the support of UNICEF, has just completed the second stage of a nationwide drive to eliminate measles in Turkey -- in terms of scale, the MOH programme of national immunisation days is the most ambitious immunisation programme in the world.
