Mr Bardakoğlu considers Haydi Kızlar Okula! -- the MONE/UNICEF campaign to support girls’ enrolment in primary education -- to be extremely valuable.
Ali Bardakoğlu, Head of the Religious Affairs says that the utmost importance should be attached to girls’ education. Calling imams to include the issue in their sermons, Bardakoğlu stressed that:
The future of the country can be guaranteed only by raising healthy, educated, industrious, honest and patriotic people who would uphold national and religious values.
In his communiqué issued to religious offices throughout the country, Bardakoğlu referred to the Haydi Kızlar Okula! campaign in support of girls’ enrolment in primary education launched jointly by the Ministry of Education (MONE) and UNICEF. Bardakoğlu said that he considered this campaign to be extremely valuable and added that:
It is mothers who give the first and perhaps most decisive education to children. In this respect it would be appropriate to honour mothers as the genuine makers of human history and first teachers in family environments. Considering that it is mothers who will raise the enlightened generation that we need so much, the importance of educating our girls, as future mothers, becomes apparent.
Bardakoğlu stressed that the new school year would start on Friday, 10th of September, and asked all religious leaders to devote their Friday sermons and other public appearances to informing people about the negative consequences of leaving children without education.
Meanwhile, the sermon on the importance of education and training
prepared by the Office of Religious Affairs will be delivered on Friday, 17th of September. The sermon stresses that Islam attaches importance to education and learning, provides all legitimate paths leading to knowledge and puts no time, place or age limit on study of the sciences. Recalling that Islam orders everyone to learn from the cradle to the grave
and asks all of the faithful to impart science at all stages of life, the sermon goes on to say:
The future generations are entrusted to us. While it is the right of new generations to be educated well in both science and morals, it is our duty to realise this right. It is our societal duty to provide good education and training in every field.
