Currently 18,000 girls of primary school age are out-of-school in the Province of Mardin. In a meeting of district governors and education directors, Governor Temel Koçaklar underlined the success achieved in getting girls into school in Mardin through the Haydi Kızlar Okula! campaign. Adding that 18,000 girls are still out-of-school in spite of this, Governor Koçaklar said:

School managers should blame themselves for boys and girls who are out of school. Findings of the survey conducted by the Directorate of Education should give us all pause for thought. 18,000 girls of school age are not enrolled.

Pointing out that each has his or her own particular tasks to perform regarding this issue, Governor Koçaklar went on to say:

We are responsible for every child who does not or cannot go to school. We should begin with this on our minds and convince their parents. Parents in economic difficulties should send their children to the primary boarding schools in our districts. We should mobilise all our resources to make sure that our boys and girls -- without any distinction -- find their way to school.
