Overall Purpose of the Assignment

Under the supervision and guidance of the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, the national individual contractor will provide administrative, logistic drafting, editing and translation support to programme coordination including the functions of planning, reporting, coordinating, and communication of programmes and projects within the Country Programme. She or he will directly report to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the UNICEF Turkey Country Office. She or he will provide administrative support in the drafting of reports and minutes, editing and translation of documents as the assignment entails. The contractor will also work in close cooperation with other section heads, project officers and project assistants.

Functions and Duties

The successful applicant will:

  1. Provide administrative, logistic drafting, editing and translation support to programme coordination including the functions of planning, reporting on programmes and projects within the Country Programme.
  2. Assist in the drafting of donor reports and other relevant reports as required.
  3. Provide support in the administrative and logistic organisation of meetings, conferences, workshops, field visit and so forth.
  4. Provide support in the collection and presentation of data and background (i.e. prepare tables, graphs and other statistical data and analytical reports) information regarding the programme.
  5. Prepare Powerpoint presentations in both English and Turkish as required by programme coordination.
  6. Review all translated reports, research and news bulletins produced by the programmes to ensure consistency of English and Turkish usage.
  7. Support the exchange of information, dialogue and coordination by maintaining close collaboration and communication with government partners on project details.
  8. Assist in the development and timely dissemination of advocacy, communication and visibility materials to target audiences.
  9. Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits of media, goodwill ambassadors, donors, national committee representatives and other special interest groups.
  10. Assist in the planning, logistic and administrative arrangements for such visits.
  11. Undertake any other assignments or tasks at the request of the supervisor.

Qualifications or specialised knowledge and experience required for the assignment

  • A university degree in social sciences, English, communication, public relations, statistics or other relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of professional work experience in reporting, communication and data analysis and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of the country’s economic and political situation and children’s and women’s rights.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, especially the ability to work in a multi’cultural team, with government officials, media, local authorities, NGOs, children and parents where necessary.
  • Good presentation skills in the dissemination of research findings with partners, government organisations, parents, children and so forth.
  • A working knowledge of current theories and practices in communication and the role of mass media is desirable.
  • Proven skills in communication, networking and advocacy.
  • An understanding of the international code of conduct.
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in written and oral form in both English and Turkish.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft applications.
