UNICEF and FC Barcelona agree to extend cooperation
FC Barcelona Statement
16 May 2011 - "UNICEF and FC Barcelona have agreed to extend their cooperation beyond the present agreement that ends in June 2011. We can confirm that the UNICEF logo will remain on the FC Barcelona official jersey for the 2011-2012 season, positioned below the player’s number.
For the last five years FC Barcelona has supported UNICEF to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of children and provide global brand awareness for UNICEF. The next phase of the partnership that is still under discussion aims to utilize the social assets of the club in support of a global movement for education and sport that will deliver tangible results for children.
UNICEF and FC Barcelona are looking forward to taking this ground-breaking partnership to the next stage to improve the lives of vulnerable children around the world. We will announce further details in June."
In 2006, FC Barcelona and UNICEF signed a very innovative and unique five-year partnership in the international football scenario. This global alliance included the use of UNICEF logo on our jersey, the first placement of its kind in our almost 110 years of history. But beyond that, FC Barcelona is deeply engaged in supporting vulnerable children by donating €1.5 million per year, with a total of €7.5 million Euros to jointly support projects aiming at combating HIV and AIDS impact on children. To date, the global alliance between FC Barcelona and UNICEF has supported more than 400,000 children, especially in sub-Saharan African countries. Next season the club is looking forward to taking the partnership to the next stage utilizing the social assets of the club in support of a global movement for education and sport that will deliver tangible results for children.
