Prevention of new infections among young people

• Over 50,000 young people involved in prevention and capacity building activities
• Life skills incorporated into schools and temple schools
• Effective models for peer education developed for HIV/AIDS prevention among vulnerable young people

Prevention of mother-to-child transmission

• Financial support for national scale-up of government programme and ongoing provision of ARVs to women and children

Care and support

• Health services and other support for orphans, vulnerable children and families
• Over 7,000 monks, nuns and novices trained under the Sangha Metta project since 1998
• Planning models implemented for multi-sectoral support to affected children in nine districts
• Models developed for community-based care and support for children living with HIV/AIDS

Capacity development and participation


• Over 500 children and young people consulted in preparation for the International AIDS Conference in Bangkok
• 300 young people from UNICEF-supported activities directly contributed to the Conference
