Assessment: Learner work samples

Learner work samples can include: written samples such as essays, stories, and reports; illustrations, maps, and diagrams; mathematics worksheets and other assignments, and graphs.

You can select samples that demonstrate specific aspects of a child's work. You can also invite children to suggest samples that they wish to have collected.

Each learner's body of collected work is saved as a "portfolio." As the quality of a learner's work improves in a particular area, new samples may be added and out-of-date samples may be returned.

When children are advanced to a new grade, teachers may pass on specific sections of their portfolios to their new teachers, as a way of helping those teachers become familiar with the varied talents and needs of the new members of their class.
