Learning in society

To survive and succeed, children depend on the support of their parents and families, of their teachers, even of each other. However. . .
. . . children's survival, and their success, depends on the societies in which they are raised.

Without peace, safety, and freedom, children are at risk.

Without the nourishment necessary for physical and mental development, children are at risk.

If they are overburdened with work, whether it is to earn money or to support their families, children are at risk.

If a society does not provide essential conditions for growth and learning, it places its children at risk.

The United Nations has codified the essential conditions for the survival and success of children, in The Convention on the Rights of the Child. Over 150 nations have ratified the CRC, committing them to complying with the principles that it outlines. Among these indivisible priciples is the right to education.

However, millions of children throughout the world remain at risk. To learn about the challenges that children face, visit Unmet needs, rights unfulfilled.
