Tajikistan Children’s Day focuses on “United for Children”

DUSHANBE, TAJIKISTAN, 1 June, 2008 – More than 5,000 children will celebrate the Child Rights Day in all districts of Dushanbe city.
This year, the Child Rights Day will focus on the theme: “Unite for children’s peace and happiness,”  and will be celebrated in line with the 10th Anniversary of Unity Day of Tajikistan. Among the initiatives that will be carried out include the following:

•  The City of Dushanbe has issued a resolution about the celebration of the Child Rights Day.  More than 2000 children will gather at the Central Children’s Park to participate in the performances and games focusing on child rights.
•  The Ministry of Health has initiated a competition among mothers on key messages related to child health and care. About 500 mothers from all districts of Dushanbe are expected to participate. 
•  The Tajik Sports Committee will facilitate sports activities during the day and more than 2000 children aged 5-17 along with their parents have been invited to participate in sports. 
“UNICEF joins the whole country not only in celebrating Child Rights Day this year but in calling attention to the importance of the theme of “unite for children,” according to Ruth Leano, UNICEF Deputy Representative.
