Presentation of the Concluding Observations for Tajikistan’s Second Periodic Report on the Convention of the Rights of the ChildDUSHANBE, 7 November 2012 – The Commission on the Rights of the Child under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan with support from UNICEF, presents today the Concluding Observations for Tajikistan’s Second Periodic Report on the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) issued in 2010 to an audience consisting of representatives of key ministries, state committees, parliamentarians, international organisations and civil society.
The Republic of Tajikistan being a State party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, is obliged to submit regular reports to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child on how children’s rights in the country are being implemented. The “Concluding Observations” are a reflection of the Committee’s concerns and recommendations as a result of examination of the report of Tajikistan. UNICEF translated the Concluding Observations into Tajik and supported its printing in both Tajik and Russian for distribution by the Government throughout the country. The wider distribution of the Concluding Observations for action by relevant duty bearers is one of the recommendations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child. During the event, the participants will be familiarised with the Concluding Observations, will identify the steps already taken in terms of addressing the concluding observations, and will agree on the necessary actions to ensure progress by 2015 in time for the next due report. The Concluding Observations issued in 2010 by the Committee on the Rights of the Child welcomes the developments in Tajikistan in the area of child rights such as the establishment of the Commission on the Rights of the Child at the national level and the Child Rights Departments at the district level, ratification of two Optional Protocols to the CRC and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 182 on the Worst forms of Child Labour.
