Warehouses

UNICEF’s main warehouse is in Copenhagen, but the Division also has emergency hubs in Johannesburg and Dubai to meet the needs of 320,000 people. 2004 was a record year for warehouse activities, with throughput up by 21 per cent in terms of value, weight, volume and the number of orders handled. Total throughput reached $76.2 million for the year (see table below for breakdown), a significant increase on the status quo that had been maintained for several years. Some 125,000 kits (from school-in-a-box and recreation kits to emergency health kits and family water kits) were also produced in 2004. A small stock of antiretroviral medicines was also added to the Copenhagen warehouse inventory, to deal with urgent requests and for expediting very small orders.

In 2004, nearly 8,000 sea and air shipments were managed by Supply Division, including 32 full charters.
