In-kind assistance

Donations of goods and services to UNICEF, known as ‘in-kind assistance’, rose in 2004 to a value of $10.5 million. The Micronutrients Initiative, as in previous years, provided the largest donation, $8 million worth of Vitamin A capsules. Significant donations of oral polio vaccine and TT vaccine to prevent tetanus/neo-natal tetanus, for a value of over $2 million raised the overall value of donations. Other items received included footballs, netball equipment, high energy biscuits, water tanks, tents, blankets and exercise books from a range of donors. The Belgian Air Force also donated a free flight to transport supplies to the Darfur region in Sudan.
