Darfur/ Eastern Chad

To address the needs of over 2 million conflict-affected children and their families in Darfur, and those who became refugees in Chad, Supply Division sent supplies regularly throughout the year. These items, with a total value of $29 million, included vaccine and cold-chain equipment (such as 3.9 million doses of measles vaccine for an immunization campaign in June), shelter materials, long-lasting insecticidal nets, first-aid kits, water and sanitation items, pharmaceuticals, nutrition items and school-in-a-box kits. Although most supplies were shipped by sea and then truck, 12 air charters were also sent to the region. The emergency hub in Dubai was used extensively in meeting urgent supply needs.
