In Dec 2011, UNICEF signed a four year partnership agreement with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for USD 2 million. The programme supports access and quality education for girls and boys through support to the construction of child friendly learning spaces as well as capacity building of teachers and communities to improve learning achievement amongst over 17,000 girls and boys in 24 conflict affected schools in Killinochchi, Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka.
