Over the past 10 years, the Australian Government (AUSAID and Australia Aid) has been a valued partner of UNICEF. They have supported programmes to meet the health, education, protection and water and sanitation needs of the most vulnerable children and women in Sri Lanka.
Their most recent engagement has been in the area of improving access and quality of education in Sri Lanka. Their assistance to the construction and rehabilitation of schools, catch-up and mine risk education and provision of water and sanitation has greatly benefited children in the North, East, Uva and Central provinces. At a national level Australia Aid has provided essential support to mainstream Child Friendly Schools as the National Framework for Education in the country
